Target Age Spots and Sun Damage With a $99 IPL Photofacial

Have you noticed new sun damage or age spots this year? Now that winter is in full swing and summer tans have faded, we are seeing a lot of patients who are noticing skin pigmentation changes and want to do something about it. One solution that we offer at EnLighten Skin & Body Medspa is the IPL Photofacial.

The Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Photofacial is a laser light treatment that can be used to treat:

  • Age spots/brown spots
  • Sun damage
  • Red spots
  • Freckles
  • Rosacea
  • Broken veins
  • Spider veins

How an IPL Photofacial Works

IPL Photofacials emit multiple wavelengths of light into the epidermis. These wavelengths target pigment production cells, destroying the hyperactive melanin-producing cells through heat energy. As the cells are destroyed, uneven pigment is dispersed and discoloration pulled to the surface of the skin where it naturally exfoliates to reveal fresh, new skin. Best results are achieved with 3-5 treatments, each spaced about a month apart.

Photofacials are not painful, but you will feel them working. A typical face treatment takes about 45 minutes, but treatment time varies depending on the size of the area being treated. Treating discoloration on the back, may take longer than the face, for example. But targeting spider veins on the legs, may be quicker.

Photofacials can be used on all parts of the body but is not recommended for anyone with a tan or melasma since the laser targets areas or dark pigmentation.

Long-Term Continuous Improvement in Skin Tone

One of the reasons why photofacials are so popular is because results improve over time with optimum results appearing about 3 months after treatment concludes. Since skin cells are constantly exfoliating and renewing themselves, once the dark pigmentation has been blasted away, the path is open for fresh skin to emerge.

Proper skin protection and maintenance are necessary to support healing and prevent a relapse of pigmentation from occurring. That means strict use of sunblock to avoid burning and regular exfoliation to prevent skin from dulling.
