After the stomach, the thighs are the most common candidates for liposuction. Since they are naturally prone to accumulating fat, it can be very difficult to lose fat from the thighs through diet and exercise alone. If you’ve got a “pear-shaped” body, you know exactly what we mean! Even when exercise does make a difference in the thighs, individuals can be left with bulging areas or pockets of fat that just won’t respond.
Not only does this excess on the thighs affect our appearance, it can affect our comfort and self-esteem. “Saddlebags” on the outside of the thighs may cause your clothing to fit improperly or even cut into you, while excess fat on the inside of the thighs can cause the thighs to rub together or against clothing, causing discomfort, rashes, and other skin irritations.
Thigh liposuction can help you get around all of these problems by removing fat from the thighs. Thigh liposuction is versatile; it can be used to remove large sections of fat or very small, targeted pockets – it all depends on your desired outcome.
What To Expect From Thigh Liposuction
Liposuction of the thighs is no longer the major surgery it used to be. Today, it’s an outpatient procedure that can be used to both remove fat and contour or shape the thighs. Contouring is a major part of the thigh liposuction procedures that we perform at EnLighten Skin & Body Medspa. Without contouring, thighs may be slimmer but they would not look as attractive or be as shapely.
Candidates who experience the best results are healthy, within 20 pounds of their ideal weight, have good skin elasticity, and distinct pockets of fat on the thighs. We generally recommend that our clients come to us AFTER they’ve achieved their weight loss goals as opposed to before so that we can better see where the problem areas remain and help them fine-tune their appearance. Thigh liposuction is often combined with knee liposuction to give the legs a more shapely appearance.
Although it is an outpatient procedure, thigh liposuction will result in soreness and swelling. You may need to wear compression garments for a few days to help reduce swelling, but once the swelling goes down, your skin will shrink and smooth on its own. In general, gentle movement is perfectly acceptable; it actually helps improve circulation and blood flow, which promotes healing. However, we always send patients home with detailed post-care treatment instructions specific to their treatment and recovery needs.
You can still gain weight in the thighs after liposuction, so a good diet and exercise are important for your long-term satisfaction. In many cases, thigh liposuction is just the motivation a person needs reach their exercise or weight loss goals!
